A Place for Friends vs. A Race of Trends

I've done my share of lurking on both nexopia and myspace and through this, I've come to notice a few major differences. Those which I will share with you now.

1. Names
On Nexopia, (or "nex" as I will refer to it as, for time's sake) there are gangsta names like
BabyPhatChic
or
EckoRed94
There are also names that make any decent girl cringe such as
HotGurl69
or
SexxxyThang69
Or any other name with hot, hott, sexy, sexxy sexxxy, any variation of the word "girl" and a 69 in there somewhere.

On Myspace, everyone has really trendy names like
Jessica! at the Disco
or
Jessica from Myspace
Or even something that has to do with lots of periods and x's and no capitalized letters such as
crying.is.true.love
or
xbreakdownsxarexlifex

2. Pictures
On Nex, there are quite often pictures of guy's abs, a girl's cleavage or vice versa. They will often take horribly done webcam shots and put captions like "my abs. THEY'RE ACTUALLY MINE!" or if it's the cleave shot, there will be a caption like "What do you think?" as if they're really sexxxy like their name says.

Myspace involves a lot of pouting, looking up towards the camera, turning away from the camera and black and white/sepia. If you have a pic on Myspace taken with a webcam, you will be ridiculed until Tom deletes your account because you no are no longer trendy enough.

3. Extra-Curr Activities
On Nex accounts, there's a section that's called "Likes". Under most of these sections, the owner will put "DRINKIN!" No time for G's. They gotta go drinkin. Their music also includes things like 50 Cent or maybe even Atreyu if they're REALLY on the liberal side.

On Myspace, there will often be a confession of straight-edgedness. It'll be like "Hey, I'm Mike, I'm straightedge." Or something like "Straightedge is life!" Those silly myspacers and their hyperboles. The music on Myspace will be no less trendy than Atreyu. But that's only for the people who haven't discovered bands similar to FOB or Stars or BSS yet. If you have already discovered bands such as these, you then have permission to become a music snob.

Tom says "Goodnight Kids!"
